Drilling and blasting are one of the most important unit operations in the mining cycle which can strongly influence the stope dilution. This paper develops a methodology to assess the effect of mining and geotechnical conditions on stope dilution in selective underground mining at a goldsilver mine in Chile. To achieve this, a database of the mine conditions and a logistic regression of the dilution were built. The Logistic regression model indicated that the most important variables for dilution differ in the case of the hanging wall and footwall. Based on the hanging wall dilution model a design tool was developed to define the maximum drill deviation and potential distance between sublevels. The objective was to achieve a potential dilution less than the admissible percentage at the mine.
