Mining-induced ground deformation associated with open cut brown coal operations at the AGL Pty Ltd Loy Yang mine, Victoria, Australia, is continuously monitored and evaluated. Ground movement behaviour associated with mining development is known with a reasonable degree of accuracy. However, understanding the ground movement response during rehabilitation and closure through to post-closure and the effects of ground movement of nearby receptors is challenging to quantify and typically requires a calibrated numerical model informed by extensive laboratory testing.
