The studies developed from feasibility engineering phase until now have given account of several geotechnical aspects and geomechanics concepts which must be analysed and evaluated. This paper presents principal geotechnical boundary conditions, questions and general aspects recognised in the project today. In addition, it summarises geotechnical aspects that are key to the transition from open-pit to underground mining at Chuquicamata.
