Abstract:
This paper presents four cases of an integrated approach to design, construction and operation of tailings storage facilities. The first three cases present how tailings solids management is designed as an integral part of embankment raising and construction, and the fourth case shows how the design is tailored to ensure effective water management during operations. These cases demonstrate that optimum solutions can be achieved for sustainable tailings and water management for tailings storage facilities if an integrated approach to design, construction and operations is adopted.
