Abstract:
Panel ground interaction between the open pit of the Los Bronces operation and the subsidence crater resulting from underground mining at the adjacent Rio Blanco mine creates an important challenge for the geomechanics superintendence of Los Bronces. This has required development of detailed work on geomechanics conditions in order to be able to carry out an operation in a safe manner while minimising risks of the sector, while also taking into account the respective geomechanics restrictions and recommendations for the mining plan and mining operation. The development of this work described in this paper takes into account gathering the information available regarding mining of Panel III, a detailed description of the implemented procedures and geomechanics controls for the current interaction with the subsidence crater. Information gathered from field mapping, diamond drilling and monitoring, including InSAR satellite interferometry, is used to define the zones of surface influence from the ongoing progress in the growth of the crater. This requires the implementation of InSAR satellite action plans for the development phases of the Los Bronces operation mining plan.
