Abstract:
This paper covers the mudrush that occurred at Bultfontein Mine on 7th May 2018. This was a significant event which engulfed the bottom three levels of the mine. Fortunately, no injuries were sustained. The prevailing conditions and circumstances leading up to the mudrush, the incident and the impact of the event are described. The analysis of the contributing factors and some conclusions of the investigations are also contained within the paper. Important lessons can be drawn from this event which may help prevent such situations developing in operating mines in the future.
