This article looks at the groundbreaking introduction of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) to the mining industry, with an in-depth look at their first use in Sweden. As the world continues its transition to more sustainable and environmentally friendly practices, the mining sector has begun to embrace BEV mining loaders and trucks as a potential game-changer. This article highlights key takeaways from Sweden's pioneering efforts to integrate BEV technology into mining operations in terms of sustainability, productivity, and overall operational excellence. The performance results and practical experience not only contribute to the growing body of knowledge on sustainable mining practices, but also provide valuable lessons for mining operations worldwide considering the adoption of BEV technology. Sweden's experience serves as an important reference point for the mining industry's journey towards a greener and more efficient future. Experiences from the first BEV deployments in the Swedish mining industry are shared by Boliden Mineral AB, LKAB and Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions.
